Candidate

Earl Balthazar

(Incumbent)

Education

Attended Louisiana State University

Professional Experience

Color technologist well versed in color science, human color perception, and industrial applications of color, with thirty-five years of experience in color system sales and support, color matching and quality control, and color lab management in compounding and masterbatch environments.

I have assisted internal and external customers in achieving the best results in producing and assessing colored products, and have extensive expertise in establishing instrument-supported color matching and quality control programs.

My current role is as a Senior Applications Engineer with Datacolor helping clients in all color-using industries (plastics, paint and coatings, ink, textile, etc.) to understand the intricacies and importance of color, and assist them in implementing the necessary controls and processes to improve efficiencies.

Why I Want To Serve

Coming from a polymer coloring and compounding background, and now teaching color theory and computer-aided color matching in the industry I have always felt that I represent the “where the rubber meets the road” color user, and will continue to bring that perspective to the CAD BOD table.  As a member of the SPE and the Division since 1987, I have seen – and benefited from – the great value that CAD provides to its members in terms of networking opportunities, technical content, and educational programs; and I wish to continue working on the board to help develop that value for our members.

I have been a member of the CAD Board since Y2000, and served as Division Chair in the 2010-11 operating year.  My other contributions include active participation in many board and committee activities; serving as the Chairperson for the Hurricane Katrina-displaced CAD RETEC® 2005 in Charlotte, and managing our return to New Orleans as the CAD RETEC® 2014 Chair.  I served 8 years on the SPE global governance Council representing my local section (and keeping CAD interests in mind), and several years as president in two geographic SPE sections.  I am an Honored Service Member of the Society, and in 2015 was presented by the Division with the Terry Golding Outstanding Achievement Award.

The technical knowledge and professional contacts I’ve acquired from CAD activities have been integral to my success in our industry.  Since 2021, I have served on the CAD Board of Directors and have contributed to the division’s continuing success.  I am currently the chair of the Education Committee and would like to continue that effort to make high-quality educational materials accessible to our members.  I would sincerely appreciate another term.
