In Memory of Terry Lee Golding
(August 8, 1946 – April 3, 2007)
Terry Golding (1 paper) served on the Board of Directors of CAD starting in 1991. He served through the chairs of the CAD, culminating in his serving as CAD Board of Directors Chairman for the 1998 – 1999 term. He was most visible as our Awards Committee chairperson, volunteering for this position at his first BOD meeting back in 1991, and serving until he stepped down in May, 2006. Terry was solely responsible for revamping the CAD awards process. Most importantly, Terry made sure there were Best Paper awards given for every ANTEC and RETEC. Starting in 1991, he instituted an honorarium given along with a plaque to make the award more meaningful, while providing incentive to higher quality papers.
Terry was a deserving recipient of Honored Service Member Status in SPE. At the time he received the HSM award, only 246 members had been elected to this prestigious status since it was established in 1992. The Outstanding Achievement Award was first established and awarded in 1989 to honor annually the recipient most deserving for the prior year service. In 2007, this award was renamed the Terry Golding Outstanding Achievement Award. Terry was a friend who touched all those he met in a very special way.
